Good Shelter Food Company Inc. o/a FoodSquad is a catering company providing meals to homeless shelters and non-profit organizations to fight hunger and poverty.

Job Overview:

We are seeking (2) dedicated and motivated individuals to join our team as Assistant Cooks in the food industry. As an Assistant Cook, you will provide support in various kitchen and food service tasks, ensuring the smooth operation of our catering service.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in portioning ingredients and preparing meals for large groups, ensuring consistency in taste and presentation.
• Monitor and record food temperatures to ensure all items are cooked and stored according to health and safety regulations.
• Assist in plating and packaging meals for delivery to shelters and non-profit organizations.
• Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure timely preparation and delivery of meals.
• Help with receiving and storing food deliveries, ensuring inventory is rotated properly and organized.
• Participate in ongoing training to improve cooking skills and techniques.

We are looking for the following qualifications:

• On the job training will be provided – previous experience in the food industry or a similar role is preferred;
• No education requirement – completion of secondary school is an asset;
• Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail;
• Basic English language skills and the ability to work well within a team;
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required;

What we offer:

• Permanent, full-time position with lots of room to grow!
• Starting rate of 16.55 per hour, for at least 30 hours per week;
• Overtime rate will apply after 44 hours of work per week;
• Location of Work: 985 Pape Avenue, East York, Ontario
