Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Pharmacy Assistant to join our team on a full-time permanent basis. As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting pharmacists and ensuring the smooth operation of a fast-paced, high-volume pharmacy.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications, including non-sterile compounding tasks such as preparing creams, ointments, or customized medications under supervision.
· Manage inventory by conducting regular audits, tracking incoming orders, handling discrepancies with suppliers, and rotating stock to minimize waste due to expired medications.
· Reconcile third-party billing, process insurance claims, and address rejected claims with accuracy and persistence. Assist customers in understanding insurance coverage and co-pays.
· Provide excellent customer service, educate patients on over-the-counter products, and explain pharmacy services such as flu shots, health screenings, and prescription delivery options.
· Support pharmacists in delivering additional patient care services. Champion various patient care programs and support specialized medication programs (e.g., biologics, diabetes care).
· Process prescriptions accurately, coordinate with prescribers for renewals or clarifications, monitor refill reminders, and maintain and update patient profiles in pharmacy systems. Prepare reports related to prescription volume, inventory usage, and customer feedback.
· Double-check prescriptions for accuracy before presenting them to the pharmacist for final approval. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and maintain records of controlled substances and other sensitive medications.
· Assist in organizing community health events, such as vaccine clinics or wellness fairs, and promote loyalty programs or in-store health services. Maintain and troubleshoot minor issues with pharmacy equipment.
· Handle returns of unused or expired medications following regulatory guidelines and assist in maintaining a safe disposal system for medications and sharps.
Requirements
· Minimum of 1 year of Pharmacy Assistant work experience in a fast-paced, high-volume, patient focused pharmacy
· Education: completion of a Pharmacy Assistant college program, ranging from six to twelve months or completion of secondary school and industry related experience
· Familiarity with pharmacy systems
· Knowledge of medical terminology.
· Familiarity with medication administration procedures.
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to prioritize tasks efficiently and work well in a team environment.
Pay:
Wage: $29.00 per hour (based on Pharmacy Related Experience)
Weekly Hours: Hours per week: 32- 40 hours per week
