Job Description
Position Summary:
A live-in overnight caregiver is needed to support an elderly couple in their 90s. The primary responsibility is to care for the male spouse, who is wheelchair-bound and has advanced Alzheimer’s disease. The female spouse is semi-blind but ambulatory and generally independent.
Key Responsibilities:
· Provide overnight supervision and hands-on care for elderly male (primary client)
· Assist male client with toileting, including physical transfers between bed and wheelchair (175 lbs)
· Perform basic cleaning duties including laundering soiled linens and clothing
· Assist with any incontinence-related clean-up as needed during the night
· Ensure client safety and comfort during overnight hours
· Light housekeeping and tidying of common areas used
· Maintain respectful and compassionate communication with both clients
· Coordinate with family or medical professionals if emergencies arise
· Provide care and companionship for individuals and families during periods of incapacitation, convalescence or family disruption
· Administer bedside and personal care to clients such as aid in ambulation, bathing, personal hygiene, and dressing and undressing
· Plan and prepare meals and special diets, and feed or assist in feeding clients
· May perform routine health-related duties such as changing non-sterile dressings, assisting in the administration of medications and collecting specimens under the general direction of home care agency supervisor or nurse
· May perform routine housekeeping duties such as laundry, washing dishes and making beds
Requirements:
· Must be physically able to lift and safely transfer a 175 lb individual
· Previous experience with Alzheimer’s, or working with elderly is required
· Valid driver’s license required
· Must be reliable, trustworthy, and calm under pressure
· Fluent in English
· Must be comfortable living in the home and working independently overnight
· Secondary school education is required
· Home management experience may be required
· College or other courses in home support may be required
· First aid certification may be required
· Completion of a training program in care of the elderly, care of persons with disabilities, convalescent care or in a related field may be required
· Must be eligible to work in Canada
Living Arrangement:
· Private bedroom provided within the residence
· Shared access to kitchen and other common areas
· Room included in compensation; board (food) not included
