Position Title: Carpenter Helper (NOC 75110)
Number of Vacancies: 3
Terms of Employment: Permanent, full-time.

Job Duties:
• Load and unload construction materials, and move materials to work areas
• Erect and dismantle scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring and barricades required at construction sites
• Assist carpenters in construction activities
• Remove rubble and other debris at construction sites using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and other equipment
• Perform other activities at construction sites, as directed.
• Prepare work areas by organizing tools, materials, adhesives, and safety equipment before work begins.
• Measure and mark stair treads, risers, and nosing components with precision using tape measures, squares, and angle finders to ensure accurate layout and fitting.
• Must be able to convert imperial to metric measurements and demonstrate proficiency in math, including fractions and angles.
• Assist in cutting, shaping, and fitting stair nosings, treads, and trims using saws, routers, and sanders.
• Support joinery tasks—such as miters, returns, and flush joints—by holding materials in place and ensuring proper alignment during assembly and installation.
• Install temporary supports, bracing, or guides to maintain alignment and stability while working with stair nosings and related components.
• Safely handle and transport hardwood, laminate, vinyl, and cork stair parts within the shop and on-site.
• Assist with finishing tasks such as sanding, sealing, staining, or painting nosing components to achieve a polished, durable surface.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the workspace, ensuring tools are properly stored and debris is cleared regularly.
• Follow detailed instructions from lead carpenters, adapting to varying workplace conditions and unique staircase designs.
• Assist in assembling stair nosings, trims, and moldings with attention to detail, ensuring proper fit, spacing, symmetry, and finish quality.
• Monitor and uphold safety standards, including correct use of PPE and safe handling of sharp tools, adhesives, and power equipment.
• Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate tasks and maintain smooth workflow throughout all phases of the project.
