Job Description

Established in 1929, Armature Electric Ltd (AEL) continues to be British Columbia’s premier electro-mechanical service center and electric motor provider. Located at 100-3811 N Fraser Way, Burnaby, V5J 5J2, BC in Canada.  Our purpose-built modern facility, we continue to solve problems and provide premium products to our customers all over the world with our global reach for sales, service and repair of power distribution, medium and high voltage motors, and generators.

We are currently looking for two Electric Motor Systems Technicians.

Electric Motor Systems Technicians (EMST) test, rebuild and repair electric motors, generators, transformers, and pumps. They maintain the electric motors and related equipment used to power machinery and equipment in various applications.

Duties:
Diagnose problems and troubleshoot, dismantle electric motors, transformers, generators and pumps for servicing and other types of electro-mechanical equipment, for modification or repair.
Recondition, remove or replace shafts, bearings, commutators and other components, referring to blueprints or service manuals as required.
Wind and assemble various types of coils for electric motors or transformers and reinstall them.
Balance armatures or rotors, weld and braze or solder electrical connections, and align and adjust parts to close tolerances to reassemble items.
Dismantle and/or strip damaged or unserviceable electro-mechanical equipment.
Document all relevant data specific to unit’s electro-magnetic characteristics, operating conditions, existing damage or intended serviceability.
Complete required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
Operate specialized repair and testing equipment including but not limited to: winding machines, test panels surge testers, core-loss testers, cut-off saws, burnout ovens, bake ovens, grinders, cranes, forklift trucks, brazing units, dip tanks, VPI systems and various handheld power and non-power tools.
Repair, test or replace components of faulty wiring in the electrical switchgears.
Testing to ensure good working performance on all motors, electrical components, transformers, switchgear.
Reconditioning or modifying of parts, shafts, commutators.
Ensure all work performed adheres to all relevant organizational, provincial and federal safety regulations, codes and specifications – knowledge of safe operating procedures.
Required to do repairs and servicing on-site.

Wage:
$40.00-$47.00 per hour
8 hours a day / 40 hours per week
Rate is dependent on experience and qualifications

Education:
Red Seal Trade certificate for Electric Motor Systems Technicians or Winder Electrician from any jurisdiction OR 2nd Year Apprentice or higher for this trade OR eligible to challenge the Red Seal exam for this trade in Canada.

A valid driver’s license and own transportation.
Good mechanical aptitude and comfortable working in a heavy-duty mechanical setting.
Ability to work independently in a busy environment.
Physically able to lift up to 50 lb.
Flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
Strong communication skills, both verbally and written.
Accountability and strong attention to detail.
Self-starter, with developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong computer skills.
Safety training, an asset.
Speak, read and write English.

Work Conditions:
Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
Overtime hours, as required.
Hazards associated with the trade.
Manual dexterity and the ability to remain standing, crouching or bending for long periods of time.
