Job Description

Position:                                 Home Childcare Provider NOC 44100

Vacancy:                                 One

Duration:                                Permanent

Start:                                       As soon as possible

Work location:                        Squamish, BC V8B 0V7

Wage:                                     $23.00

Hours per week:                     30 minimum.

Benefits:                                 Meals provided while working

Optional accommodation available at no charge on a live-in basis.

 

DUTIES:

 

1. Direct Childcare and Supervision

a)     Provide attentive care and supervision for a primary school-aged child in the employer’s home

b)     Assist with daily routines including bathing, dressing, and feeding

c)     Teach and encourage personal hygiene habits appropriate for the child’s age

d)     Monitor and guide the child’s activities, including mealtimes, rest, and play

e)     Support developmental milestones (learning to tie shoes, etc.)

f)      Follow parents’ preferences and methods for discipline and behaviour guidance

g)     Assist with bedtime routines if evening care is needed

 

2. Education, Enrichment, and Social Development

a)     Demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity to the child’s Indigenous heritage by respecting family traditions, incorporating age-appropriate cultural learning when guided by parents, and fostering pride in the child’s identity.

b)     Support homework completion

c)     Support early learning and development through age-appropriate play, crafts, reading, and educational outings

d)     Introduce cultural/creative activities (art, music, storytelling, cooking together)

e)     Nurture the child’s emotional well-being and encourage positive social interactions

f)      Coordinate playdates or activities with other families

g)     Encourage and participate in outdoor play and exercise (parks, walks, backyard activities)

h)     Expose child to community activities (library story times, community centers, local events)

 

3. Health and Safety

a)     Administer medications as directed by parents

b)     Recognize and respond to minor illnesses or injuries (first aid, notifying parents)

c)     Be able to lift or move child, such as in emergencies

d)     Ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment within the home

 

4. Household and Logistics (Child-Related)

a)     Plan and prepare nutritious meals and snacks for the child; may assist with light household duties related to childcare

b)     Light housekeeping related to the children (laundry, tidying toys, cleaning play areas)

c)     Organize children’s belongings (school bags, sports gear, seasonal clothing)

d)     Run child-related errands (picking up prescriptions, grocery shopping for kids’ meals)

e)     Accompany the child to school, playdates, or other scheduled activities and appointments

f)      Accompany and supervise the child during family outings or travel, as required.

 

5. Communication and Reporting

a) Communicate promptly with parents regarding any issues, concerns, or notable events related to the child’s well-being or behaviour.
b) Maintain daily notes on routines, activities, and any relevant health or behavioural observations.

CREDENTIALS & QUALIFICATIONS

1.      At least two years experience in child care or closely related occupation

2.      Minimum high school diploma

3.      Emergency child care first aid and CPR or equivalent

4.      Red Cross babysitting course or equivalent

5.      Background check, including but not limited to vulnerable sector criminal record check
