Home Support Worker

Job Description

We are seeking two reliable, patient and compassionate Home Support Workers to provide in-home care for an individual who is primarily bedbound and has significant medical and mobility needs. The individual requires assistance with daily personal care and routine support related to G-tube feeding, respiratory support, suctioning, mobility/repositioning, and other activities of daily living, all according to an established care plan.

Position 1 – Home Support Worker

Wage: $26-28.00 per hour

Hours: 32-40 hours per week

Main duties:

•      Provide personal care and assistance with activities of daily living

•      Assist with feeding and G-tube-related care according to the established care plan.

•      Assist with routine respiratory support and suctioning as required and according to the established care plan and training

•      Assist with repositioning and mobility

•      Assist with dressing, toileting, hygiene and other personal-care needs

•      Prepare meals and assist with light patient-related household tasks

•      Observe and report changes in the individual’s condition to the employer and health professionals.

Maintain a clean and safe environment for the individual

Employment requirements for Position 1:

•      Relevant education, training or experience in home support, caregiving, personal care or a related field preferred

•      At least one year previous experience providing care to individuals with significant medical or mobility needs

•      Ability to follow an established care plan and safety procedures

•      Ability to communicate effectively in English

•      Reliable, patient and compassionate

•      Ability to work independently in a private-home setting

•      Speaking Madeiran is an asset.

Position 2 – Home Support Worker

Wage: $30-32 per hour

Hours: 32-40 hours per week

This position includes all the general home-support duties listed above plus additional personal-care responsibilities:

•      Provide more extensive assistance such as wound care under health guidelines.

•      Experience of airway management and respiratory procedures

•      Experience of working with individuals using eye gaze, sign language or a communication board

•      Monitoring health conditions and vital signs.

Employment requirements for Position 2 :

In addition to the requirements listed for Position 1, the candidate also requires the following credentials:

•      Health Care Assistant (HCA) certificate or equivalent preferred

•      Substantial previous experience providing care to bedbound individuals with complex medical and mobility needs

•      Nursing background is a strong asset

Both positions are located in Surrey, British Columbia and involve providing care to the same individual in the individual’s private residence. Training on the specific care plan will be provided.
