Job Responsibilities
· Operate and drive a tractor-trailer to transport goods efficiently over long distances.
· Verify the materials being transported, ensuring compliance with weight restrictions and proper loading.
· Conduct vehicle inspections, including tires, lights, brakes, fuel, and oil, performing pre- and post-trip assessments.
· Monitor vehicle performance and mechanical condition, reporting accidents, injuries, or issues promptly.
· Maintain records of rest periods, distance travelled, and fuel consumption to meet regulatory requirements.
· Communicate with supervisors, dispatchers, and customers to coordinate routing and deliveries.
· Follow safety rules and regulations to ensure a secure and compliant transportation operation.
· Manage paperwork, including bills of lading, shipments, trip reports, and delivery receipts.
· Navigate routes using GPS systems and maps to ensure timely deliveries and fuel efficiency.
· Secure cargo properly to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
· Handle emergencies, such as adverse weather conditions, traffic delays, or breakdowns.
· Comply with transportation regulations, including hours-of-service rules.
· Monitor and report any equipment issues or mechanical problems.
Job Requirements
· Class 1 driver’s license or equivalent.
· Experience as long-haul truck driver would be an asset.
· Good communication skills in English.
· A clean driving record with no major traffic violations, accidents, or convictions.
· A strong commitment to safety.
· Basic mechanical knowledge to perform minor vehicle repairs and maintenance is a plus.
· Ability to adapt to changing conditions, weather, and road challenges during long-distance travel.
· Collaborative attitude to work effectively with dispatchers, mechanics, and other team members.
