Type of Position: Permanent, full time

Job duties:
Belt Technician is responsible for the installation and repair of conveyor belts and conveyor systems, including basic mechanical maintenance. This will involve work in the branch workshop and a significant proportion of time out at customer sites.

• Ensure conveyor belts or systems are working effectively per customer orders and instructions.
• Collaborate with co-workers, supervisors and customers to ensure successful achievement of expectations for performing a safe and high-quality conveyor maintenance in a safe and efficient manner.
• Learn about customer relations and conduct oneself professionally at customer sites as a representative of the company.
• Handle any arising customer issues on site and advise territory Solution Specialist or Shop/Foreman/Service Manager.
• Properly identify the basic conveyor system components and troubleshoot to perform basic splices, belt cleaning and pulley lagging.
• Disassemble conveyor system by removing components to gain access to perform splice.
• Load trucks with tools, materials and equipment required for conveyor belt installation, vulcanized splices, and other maintenance opportunities.
• Perform mechanical, step, and finger splices using hot or cold repair procedures.
• Assemble and dismantle cleaner systems along with activating and deactivating cleaners.
• Perform pulley lagging by preparing equipment and applying adhesives and primers necessary to complete job.
• Complete buffing, trimming and sealing of belts.
• Complete assigned paperwork on time with accuracy.
• Maintain a safe work environment for the company and comply with safety regulations set forth by the company, as well as customer specific policies.
• Demonstrate proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment and materials.
• Attend training such as the Apprenticeship Program and prove competency in acquired skills.
• Report any faulty part or equipment on field/shop work report and to Service Supervisor/Shop Foreman immediately.
• Attend Apprenticeship Training and strive to improve knowledge, skills/abilities, and workmanship.
• Assist in training and mentorship of Apprentices.
• Maintain housekeeping of work area (in shop or on site).
• Perform additional related duties as assigned.

• Able to visually identify, with or without the use of vision correcting lenses, materials and workplace hazards, and direct workers to perform their tasks safely.
• Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, cut gloves, aprons, hearing protection, and dut marks.
• Ability to frequently lift/carry up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment:
• General warehouse environment.
• Frequently working outside, in various weather conditions.
• May be working in damp or humid environment.
• May be required to work above or below ground level/confined space.
• Regularly required to work weekends, over time hours, and emergency hours.
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, and manual manipulating.

Experience Required:
• On-the-job training is provided.
• Experience of hands-on, mechanical work, ideally within the same or a related industry, or a business with 24/7 service component, is an asset.

Education Required:
• No formal education requirements.
• Secondary (High) school certificate or GED is an asset.

Wage & Hours: $ 28.70 / h
• Number of hours per day: 8
• Number of days per week: 5
• Number of hours per week: 40
• Overtime starts after how many hours: 8 h / day, Statutory Holidays and Weekends.
• Shift rotation: 8-10-12 hour shifts.
