Job Description
WORK LOCATION: 1487 Gerrard St E, Toronto, ON M4L 2A4 (remote work unavailable) JOB START DATE: As soon as possible TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Permanent full-time HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week; split shift (7.30am-9.30am and 1pm-6pm) EDUCATION: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate, or Diploma from a program of 1 year or 2 years, in SOCIAL WORK or CHILDCARE PROVIDER/ASSISTANT, or EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE CREDENTIAL (required): CPR certificate, First Aid certificate, High Five training SECURITY (required): Basic security clearance, criminal record check, vulnerable sector check BENEFITS: Learning/training paid by employer; paid time off (volunteering or personal days); team building opportunities PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES: Physically demanding; attention to detail; combination of sitting, standing, walking; bending, crouching, kneeling; manual dexterity PERSONAL SUITABILITY: Punctuality; dependability; efficient interpersonal skills; excellent oral communication; interpersonal awareness; judgement; reliability; team player; values and ethics; creativity; honesty; ability to multitask WORK SETTING: Before and after school children’s programs WORK SITE ENVIRONMENT: Noisy, non-smoking, air conditioned DUTIES: - Assist childcare staff in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children - Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest - Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts - Encourage children to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity - Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and preparing reports for childcare workers - Assist co-workers in housekeeping and cooking duties - Maintain childcare centre equipment - Submit written observations on children to childcare centre senior staff - Assist childcare staff in keeping records - Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children - Establish and maintains collaborative relationships with co-workers **Please note that asylum seekers who hold valid Canadian work permits and meet the required qualifications are invited to apply for the position.***
