Job Duties:

• Plan, organize, direct, and oversee daily nursery and greenhouse operations, including coordinating production activities, establishing work priorities, assigning tasks to supervisors and nursery workers, and ensuring production schedules and quality standards are met.
• Establish and maintain appropriate environmental conditions for plant growth, including monitoring water, light, temperature, humidity, and other growing conditions for trees, shrubs, flowers, and plants, and developing planting, growing, and plant-care schedules.
• Supervise and coordinate nursery workers, including workers employed through the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP), involved in planting, transplanting, watering, feeding, pruning, spraying, handling, and maintaining nursery stock. Monitor their work to ensure duties are performed safely, efficiently, and according to established procedures.
• Provide day-to-day direction and support to nursery workers and SAWP workers, including assigning duties, explaining work procedures, monitoring productivity and quality of work, addressing operational issues, and ensuring workers have the tools, materials, and instructions required to perform their duties.
• Monitor plant health and growing conditions to identify insect infestations, diseases, weeds, and other plant-health concerns, and determine and oversee appropriate prevention, treatment, and control measures.
• Plan and order materials and supplies required for nursery operations, including fertilizers, growing media, plant-care products, tools, equipment, and other nursery and greenhouse
supplies, while monitoring inventory and ensuring adequate materials are available for scheduled production. • Hire, train, supervise, and manage nursery staff, including nursery workers and SAWP workers, by providing orientation and job training, preparing work schedules, assigning responsibilities, monitoring performance, and ensuring appropriate staffing levels based on seasonal and operational requirements.
• Maintain accurate operational and personnel records, including nursery stock and inventory, production activities, purchases and expenses, employee information, work schedules, attendance, and other records required for the effective management of nursery operations.
